Lawson Labs Win10 USB Driver Installation
for the Model 301, Model 302, EMF2 and EMF6

When connecting a Model 301, 302, EMF2 or EMF6 (M30x) to a computer for the first time in Win10 and when the system is connected to the internet, the driver will usually download and install automatically.

NOTE: You will need an updated DLL in order to use the new Win10 driver. Get the new DLL step 1 below.

If not connected to the internet, manual installation will be required as shown in step 6 further down this page. Otherwise, follow the steps below to either install, or confirm an installation.

1.) While connected to the internet, connect the USB cable between your M30x and computer. Pay attention to any errors, if any, that may be shown as the Win10 installer downloads and installs our driver from the internet. There may be no confirmation by Win10 whether or not the driver has correctly installed. The best way to confirm if the latest driver has installed correctly is to open "device manager" while a M30x is connected to the computer.

In Win10 the device manager can be accessed by right-clicking on the Windows icon at the left lower corner of the screen. A pop-up box will appear with a link to the device manager. Near the bottom of the list, there should be an entry, "Universal Serial Bus devices." Clicking the arrow beside that link will expand it to show our device as shown in the screenshot below:

If the device driver is shown as "Lawson Labs Inc" under "Universal Serial Bus devices" as shown in the screenshot above, you will still need the updated DLL to work with the new driver. See how HERE. After copying the new DLL to your application folder your M30x is ready to be used.

If one of our M30x devices was connected to the PC prior to September 27, 2016 and doesn't now show as in the screenshot above, or if the computer is not connected to the internet, then manual installation may be required as shown in step 6 further down this page.

2.) If the M30x is connected and "Lawson Labs Inc" doesn't show under Universal Serial Bus devices, check under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" as shown below. If "Lawson Labs Inc" is found there, right-click it and select uninstall. Be sure to check the box "delete the driver software. . ." that shows up on the next screen:

3.) If not connected to the internet go to step 6. Otherwise, disconnect the M30x USB cable, wait a couple of seconds, then plug it back in and see if the driver is automatically downloaded and installed from the internet. If it then appears as "Lawson Labs Inc" under Universal Serial Bus devices, be sure to get the new DLL and you're ready to use your M30x.

If it did not appear as it should, look to see if it appeared as an "unknown device" as shown below:

4.) If it's shown there as "unknown device", right-click it and choose the option to "update driver software", and there will be two options presented to you. One is to have Win10 search automatically online and install the driver (the easiest), or download it from our website and manually install it as shown in step 6. If you select the first option, it may take a while, but you will eventually be notified when/if it succeeds or fails:

5.) If it fails, or if you want to manually install for another reason, continue to next step below.

6.) From a PC that is connected to the internet get the driver installation files from our website:
NOTE: the exact same drivers are linked from the Model301 and Model302 pages.

Access the page above by going to our main page at  lawsonlabs.com  and clicking the link for the Model301 or Model302. On the next page, select "Installation files and utilities."

7.) Select the "archived files" option. That archive contains the three files required for installation, plus additional documentation and the most recent DLL to use with your application. Move the archive back to the target computer and extract the archive.

The screenshot below shows the three files that you will need to have in a folder that you can reference while in device manager. It's fine to keep all the files from the archive together in that same folder as the installer will use only the files needed to install the driver.

8.) Once all of the install files are in place, you can then go back to the device manager, right-click "unknown device" if shown under "other devices", or "Lawson Labs Inc" if shown under "Universal Serial Bus controllers", choose the option to "update driver software...", and then in the box that appears, choose the option to "Browse my computer. . .":

9.) A dialog box will open allowing you to choose the location of the installation files it's to use. No files will show in the folder you select, but if the "OK" button becomes active, it indicates that it's found a valid installation in that folder:

10.) Press the "OK" button, and then the "next" button on the main screen that it returns you to, and the driver should then install and appear as "Lawson Labs Inc" beneath "Universal Serial Bus devices" as shown in the screenshot below.

You can then close device manager. Be sure to get the new DLL if you haven't already, and you're ready to use your M30x.
